Wisdom Teeth Extraction Odenton MD

Removal of wisdom teeth is a common procedure that requires care.

Wisdom teeth – that third set of molars in the back of the mouth – often need to be extracted. They usually emerge from age 17-21 and almost always need to be removed. Though wisdom teeth extraction is a common dental procedure, it should be done with great care.

At the Odenton Dental office, there are a number of reasons we recommend extracting wisdom teeth:

  • Because they are hard to reach, they can cause gum infections and gum disease.
  • Wisdom teeth can be the source of cheek, neck and upper jaw infections.
  • They can damage other teeth by crowding the mouth and pushing teeth out of position.
  • It is difficult to maintain good dental hygiene with wisdom teeth.

Dr. Mark J. Gasbara has performed thousands of wisdom teeth extractions. No matter how many procedures we do, however, we take great care with each one. We use IV sedation and local anesthetic to keep the patient comfortable.  Occasionally, we may refer you to an oral surgeon, depending on the complexity of your case.

Careful, gentle extraction is important both for the patient’s comfort and for effective healing.
