Don’t Let Your Smile Hold You Back
Teeth and smiles are incredibly important. They are one of the most important parts of a first impression, and to many people, they say a lot about a person overall.
Unfortunately, while basic dental maintenance is very simple and quick, there are thousands of individuals who feel they simply do not have the time for more serious dental work.
This problem can be even further compounded if the individual in question is not you, but someone you know instead. Topics such as dental care can make many people feel very defensive and self-conscious, so you need to handle them with care.
One of the best ways to do this is by using your own dental work as a way to start up a dialogue. Perhaps mention that you need to get your teeth cleaned, and segue it into asking them when the last time they got their teeth cleaned was.
You might even be able to mention any future dental work that you want done, and use it as a stepping stone to ask if there is anything about their mouth/smile that they would like to change.
The main thing you want to be sure of is that you don’t prod. Not only is that likely to put someone’s defenses up, but it could also affect your relationship with them. Often times you don’t even have to get into the discussion. Sometimes you can get away with simply reminding people that they need to visit their dentist on a regular basis.
Everyone knows that dental health is a serious matter, but sometimes people can let it slip through the cracks. Hopefully after reading this, you feel a little more comfortable helping someone you care about keep their teeth happy.
